Wild Turkey Research Project at Work
 A rarity! This adult hen
from Bridgeton, Cumber land
County, has w ell developed
spurs, an attribute almost
never seen in female tur keys.
 Wild Turkey Research
Project staff band the birds
and determine the sex, age
and weight of each tur key.
In suburban back yards, very large flocks
of wild tur keys can create a nuisance. Here,
turkeys are attracted to cor n placed under a
drop-net in Bridgeton, Cumber land County.
After the drop-net falls, captured tur keys are carefully
removed and individually boxed for tra vel.
Wild Turkey Research Project technician Marissa Hunt releases an adult gobbler
from the transpor t box while a just-released hen flies past. Wild turkeys in suburban
areas lik e Bridgeton ma y grow accustomed to people and become a nuisance. These
birds may be captured and successfully released into more appropriate habitat.
